Stepping into a carpet store isn’t easy. The construction, fiber, padding and how the room gets used all impact what people expect walking in. The wrong construction or fiber is avoidable and that’s where a real carpet store earns its keep. At Floors To Go of Lighthouse Point, we walk you through what fits your space whether you’re dealing with kids, pets, sunlight, heavy foot traffic or all of it. Stop by our showroom or schedule a consultation to experience the difference of shopping with us.
Carpet is a great flooring choice for the right room. Here's what it brings to a Lighthouse Point home.
Carpet is soft and inviting so it brings warmth that a hard-surface floor would struggle to match. In spaces like bedrooms that need comfort, you'll notice the difference.
Carpet cushions sound and reduces noise between rooms. It also lowers the risk of falls, especially in homes with kids or older family members.
Rather than circulating dust and allergens throughout, carpet traps them. In households where managing allergies matters, this is a huge advantage.
Carpet is affordable compared to hard-surface flooring options. Installation costs are also lower, making it a solid combination of budget and style.
There are many colors, styles and patterns. Carpet can serve as either a relaxed backdrop or a bold statement while helping disguise minor subfloor imperfections.
Before choosing your carpet, you need to think about how the room will be used. Ask yourself the following questions:
The softness and durability of carpet comes from the padding underneath. Good padding acts as a shock absorber that protects the carpet, extends its lifespan and helps it feel better underfoot.
Carpet construction comes from the right style, traffic, maintenance and look you want. Here's an overview:

Textured carpet is one of the most popular types of constructions. Essentially, its cut pile with crimps and alternating twists that create a casual, soft feel that helps hide footprints and vacuum marks. It comes at many price points and stands up to heavy traffic and active families.

Saxony is dense, elegant and level-cut with a uniform, velvet-like finish that offers an elevated look and feel. That said, it's not great for high-traffic areas because it shows footprints and vacuum marks more easily.

Frieze is cut with tight twists that bend away from each other and curl slightly at the end. The result is a textured, durable surface that hides footprints and everyday markings.

Cable carpet has thick, long, twisty yarns cut at varying lengths for a soft feel underfoot. However, it's not a great fit for high-activity rooms, hallways or stairs because it does tend to crush under regular foot traffic.

Loop carpet uses uncut yarn to provide a durable, easy-to-clean surface. Because seams are visible, they aren't the best option for stairs. Level loop styles create a smooth, firm, casual surface. Berber is denser and more stain-resistant, but pet claws can catch and fray the loops.

Cut & loop is a combination of cut and uncut fibers that creates patterns and textures. It's available in single or multiple colors. The construction is known for its ability to disguise stains and daily wear.
Be careful to choose the right cushion that protects both the life and look of your carpet. Per Carpet and Rug Institute guidance, textured, cut-loop or high-level loop carpet need a resilient, firm cushion between 7/16 and 1/2 inch at no less than 6 pounds per cubic foot density. Polyurethane, rebound, fiber or rubber foams are ideal. Berber and thinner loop or cut styles need a more stable, low-flexing cushion that's no thicker than 3/8 inch. Always check with the manufacturer to confirm what a carpet requires.
There are four different carpet fibers to choose from. Each has its own strengths:

Nylon is soft yet strong, holds color and is easy to clean. It’s highly resilient, fade-resistant and keeps its texture over time. Newer “Nylon 6″ and “Nylon 6/6” fibers will cost more, but provide better durability and wear resistance. Choose this option for nearly any room, but specifically for spaces vulnerable to stains.

Polypropylene has been on the rise in the past decade. It resists moisture, staining, fading and chemical cleaners better than its counterpart. It’s solution-dyed. In other words, color is added during fiber production rather than afterward so it is colorfast. The moisture and mildew resistance make it ideal for both indoor and outdoor spaces including playrooms, kitchens and dens.

Made from recycled PET plastic, polyester is stronger than polypropylene so it performs similarly to nylon at a lower price. It’s also soft so it suits thick, cut-pile styles. Plus it naturally and permanently resists water-soluble stains and it’s environmentally-friendly since it’s a recycled product.

Wool is the original carpet fiber and is natural. Tough and durable, but soft and luxurious, it naturally releases soil instead of absorbing, making dust, dirt and oil-based stains simple to remove. It lasts in the busiest areas of your home and comes from a renewable resource. Bear in mind it is the most expensive of the four fibers and usually reserved for luxury carpets and area rugs.
